Judge denies Senate Bill 49 opponents’ request for preliminary injuction

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A Misouri judge has denied a request for a preliminary injunction blocking  SB 49, a bill barring gender transition care for childtren, while the measure goes through the court system.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey released the following statement after the judge’s ruling:

“Missouri is the first state in the nation to successfully defend at the trial court level a law barring child mutilation. I’ve said from day one as Attorney General that I will fight to ensure that Missouri is the safest state in the nation for children. This is a huge step in that direction.

What a day.”

GENDER CARE COURT RULING

The ruling and the new law regarding trans-gender issues was sharply criticized by Mallory Schwarz, Abortion Action Missouri executive director who said, “This sham of an order relies on the same type of medical disinformation and politicization that Missouri politicians and special interest groups used to ban abortion. Their obsession with the personal and private decisions of Missouri children and families is more than politics– it’s a hate crime— a targeted attack on gender expansive Missourians.

“Separating and criminalizing our families has always been the goal of the politicians behind attacks on our bodily autonomy. The egregious infringements on the patient/ provider relationship of this order, like bans on abortion, only create further avenues to police the people and families of our state.

“Today our message for trans and gender expansive Missourians and their families is simple: we love you, you deserve to be here, and we will never stop fighting for and alongside you. Missourians are not the problem; our politicians are the problem and Missourians are the solution.

“Transgender Missourians needing peer support can reach out to local trans-led organizations such as Metro Trans Umbrella Group (MTUG), The Shades Project, or St. Louis Queer+ Support Helpline (SQSH) in St. Louis, Transformations in Kansas City, and Springfield Transgender and Ally Resource Team (START) in Springfield.

“Abortion Action Missouri, formerly Pro-Choice Missouri, is the leading grassroots pro-abortion advocacy organization in Missouri and works to foster and sustain a Midwest movement for control of our bodies, lives, and futures. We envision a world with stigma-free abortion access and reproductive freedom for all.”
