SIU women’s soccer falls on the road at IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Southern Illinois University’s women’s soccer team (1-1-0) suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday, as the Salukis fell to IUPUI, 2-0.



The Jaguars got going early on the offensive end, scoring in the 20th minute after Sam Slimak found the back-of-the-net to give IUPUI a 1-0 lead.

In the final seconds of the first half, IUPUI doubled its lead through Jessica Jacobs, who put the Jags up 2-0. Ary Lougher tallied four saves in goal for the Salukis in the opening 45 minutes.

Both teams were blanked in the second half, with the Jags posting 14 shots while Southern Illinois put up five. Lougher made another four saves in the final 45 minutes of play.

Emma Spotak paced the Salukis with two shots in the 2-0 defeat on Sunday. Veronica Gonzalez and Molly Tapak had SIU’s lone two shots-on-goal.

The Salukis will return home for their next two matches, starting on Thursday, Aug. 24, against Kansas City at 7 p.m. SIU will then host Southeast Missouri State (SEMO) on Sunday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m. to conclude a two-game homestand at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex.
