Ste. Genevieve man escapes injury in I-55 crash in St. Louis County

JEFFERSON CITY — A 50-year-old Ste. Genevieve man escaped injury in a traffic crash which sent a New Madrid man to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 83-year-old Ben Wesley of New Madrid was taken to Mercy Hospital South by ambulance following the crash on I-55 in St. Louis County.

 

According to the patrol’s report Wesley was the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the crash, a 2000 Chevrolet Impala.

 

The Ste. Genevieve man, 50-year-old Kevin Walsh was the driver of the other vehicle involved, a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis.

 

The patrol says both vehicles were traveling north on I-55 when Wesley failed to maintain his lane and struck Walsh’s car in the side as it passed him on the left in an adjacent lane.

 

Wesley’s car then ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a rock bluff.

 

The crash happened about 6:39 a.m. Thursday north of Lindbergh Boulevard.

 

Both drivers were buckled up.

 

The Impala was a total loss. It was removed from the scene by Miners Towing.

 

The Grand Marquis received minor damage. It was driven from the scene.
