JEFFERSON CITY, MO — The Missouri State Treasurer’s Office under the leadership of Treasurer Malek made $510,565,063.61 in investment earnings in Fiscal Year 2026.
As the state’s Chief Banking and Investment Officer, Treasurer Malek is responsible for investing funds in the state treasury.
“Missouri taxpayers deserve to know that state funds are being wisely managed,” said Treasurer Malek. “These numbers show that our investment strategy is delivering real results.”
Once the Treasurer’s office determines the amount of state funds not needed for current operating expenses, those funds are invested. Investments include interest-bearing time deposits in Missouri banks, United States Treasury and federal agency securities, repurchase agreements, and top-rated commercial paper.
“When investing public funds, safety is my number one priority,” Treasurer Malek said. “What we choose to invest our funds in matters to keep Missouri taxpayer dollars as safe as they can be.”
So far for Fiscal Year 2027, the interest earned for July is $31,827,620.13 and for August is $35,036,048.93.

About the Treasurer
Vivek Malek is Missouri’s 48th State Treasurer. The state treasurer serves as Missouri’s chief banking and investing officer, directing the state’s banking services, and overseeing Missouri’s state investment portfolio. His approach centers on protecting taxpayer dollars, expanding opportunity through office programs, and promoting the promise of America, something he calls the “Three P’s.” Under his leadership, the office has worked to protect Missouri’s pension funds through disinvestment from Chinese state enterprises, expanded savings programs for disabled Missourians and for education and training, increased the return of unclaimed property, and grown the state’s linked deposit program to help farmers and small business owners access below-market loans.
