STE. GENEVIEVE – Ste. Genevieve’s local Lt. Col. J. Felix St. James Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Camp 326 held an honor guard ceremony on April 14th in Memorial Cemetery.

The Camp conducts the guard each year in honor of the Camp’s namesake, Lt. Col J. Felix St. James.

St. James was one of first volunteers from the area after the start of the Civil War. A member of the 13th MO infantry regiment command, he died April 4, 1862, due to wounds suffered at the Battle of Shiloh, TN.

His remains were returned to Ste. Genevieve and buried on April 14, 1862, next to his father’s tombstone.
