STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve County Commission has issued the following statement of support for the Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office which has been targeted recently by members of Congress and community members for having issues with food, medical care, and sleeping accommodations.
The three commissioners RandyRuzicka, Cory Ford and Mark Marberry all signed the letter which was released to the media over the weekend.
“The Ste. Genevieve County Commission wishes to inform the public that they have full confidence in Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff Gary Stolzer and his staff.
“The commission has and continues to work closely with Stolzer and his command staff and have found them to be totally professional in demeanor and action and the commission rejects the accusations leveled against them in recent media portrayals.
“Sheriff Gary Stolzer has decades of distinguished service in Ste. Genevieve County and is a true asset to the community. His vision of how to run the Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center has been a credit to the county as a whole.”
Sincerely,
The Ste. Genevieve County Commission
The Ste. Genevieve County Jail was recently visited by members of congress who after touring the facilities were critical of the conditions inside the jail which also serves as a detention center for persons suspected of being in the United States illegally.
Sheriff Stolzer and Chief Deputy Jason Schott responded to the critics during Thursday’s meeting of the Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen.
Their remarks followed comments from local critics of the jail facility and the jail’s housing of ICE detainees.
A video of the meeting is now available on the SteGenTV You Tube Channel and has been posted in today’s Sun Times News Online and on the KSGM and Sun Times News Facebook pages.
