STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen met in regular session Thursday.

Ste. Genevieve Tourism Director Aaron Smith and Ronnie Rayfield spoke about the community’s U.S. 250 Celebration plans. 0:57

Police Chief Daniel Halek presented the police department report. He mentioned the police department had no interactions with ICE during the month. 13:19

There were several public comments concerning the Sheriff’s office cooperation with ICE, most were negative toward the situation involving ICE detainees in the jail. One person spoke in favor of the local facility. 17:44

In addition, both Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff Gary Stolzer (pictured at left) and Chief Deputy Jason Schott appeared before the board of aldermen to discuss issues raised during a recent tour of the jail by members of Congress and a news conference which followed. Street closure request from French Colonial America for Saturday, May 30.

Street closure request from Ste. Genevieve French Heritage Festival co-chair Sandra Cabot for Friday, June 12th and Saturday June 13 for the 29th Annual French Heritage Festival. The closure will include Market Street from Second to Main Street, 10 p.m. Friday, June 12 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 13. A second closure was requested for DuBourg Street for Saturday, June 14 from 8 a.m. to noon for opening ceremonies.

Old Business:

Bill No. 4721, to establish a procedure for disclosing conflicts of interest and substantial interestes was given final approval on a roll call vote of 7 yes, 0 no and one absent. 1:12:03

New Business:  

Bill No. 4725, approving a special use permit for Ernst and Lisa Kovac to operate a guest lodging establishment at 539 N. Main Street in a single-family residential district was given first round approval on a voice vote. 1:12:47

Bill No. 4726, approving a special use permit for Loren Odenwald to operate a guest lodging room – Airbnb at 996 Market Street in a general residential district was given first round approval on a voice vote. A motion for an immediate second reading died for lack of a second. 1:13:18

Bill No. 4727, making a change in water rates was given first round approval on a voice vote 1:15:11

Bill No. 4728, making a change in sewer rates was given first round approval on a voice vote. 1:15:46

Bill No. 4729, amending the city budget was given first round approval on a voice vote. 1:16:18

Bill No. 4730, a $65,454 agreement with Jokerst Inc. for the Crestlawn Cemetery Expansion Project was given first round approval on a voice vote. 1:16:48
