JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. –Speaker of the House Jon Patterson, R-Lee’s Summit, proudly announces the appointment of State Rep. Bill Owen, R-Springfield, to serve as Chair of the House Budget Committee, effective immediately.
“Representative Owen is a proven champion for fiscal responsibility and a steady hand when it comes to stewarding taxpayer dollars,” Speaker Patterson said. “He brings nearly four decades of real-world banking experience and a deep understanding of how to balance budgets and prioritize core responsibilities of government, making Bill the right person to lead our Budget Committee. Missourians expect us to live within our means, deliver a balanced budget, and focus on the essentials. I have full confidence in his leadership.”
Representing portions of Greene County, Rep. Owen has served in the Missouri House since 2021 (with prior service in 1981-82). He currently serves on the House Budget Committee and chairs the Financial Institutions Committee.

Dr. Jon Patterson, a Republican, represents District 30, which includes parts of Lee’s Summit. He was elected to his first two-year term in November of 2018. Rep. Patterson currently serves as Speaker of the House.
