Letter to the editor

Dear Editor:

The presidential primary system in Missouri has been an aberration in this election year. Missouri’s Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, a Republican, forced a divergence from what had been the norm for decades in our primary process and, without doubt, this divergence must serve as a warning for the potential of a similar political disruption in our Fall election.

With that in mind, it is paramount that voters grasp the significance and gravity of what must be accomplished in November and that is the return of a political norm. Something that doesn’t include a restraint placed upon the right to vote by certain segments of our population. Our Democracy needs more clear voices, not less.

The Republican Caucus has already unfolded and the response was negligible at best. The Democratic Primary invites registered Democrats who did not receive a mail ballot, and undeclared (independent) voters, to vote in-person Saturday, March 23, 8 a.m. to noon.

In Ste. Genevieve County the polling location at the United Steelworkers Union Hall, 950 South Gabouri Street.
