WASHINGTON, D.C. –U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) has introduced legislation to establish the Prairie du Rocher French Colonial National Historical Park. The park would include sites in Prairie du Rocher, Kaskaskia, and Fort de Chartres.
Southern Illinois is blessed to have a rich history that began long before the founding of our nation. That includes Prairie du Rocher, which is celebrating its 300th anniversary this year!
“I recently introduced legislation to establish the Prairie du Rocher French Colonial National Historical Park. Prairie du Rocher was founded as a French settlement in 1722 and still stands today as one of the best examples of French Colonial architecture and culture in the United States. It is vitally important that we preserve this piece of our history for years to come and my bill will help do just that,” he said.
