Red Bud residents seriously injured in I-55 crash

JEFFERSON CITY — A man and a woman from Red Bud were seriously injured in a traffic crash on I-44 in St. Louis County Sunday morning.

 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports 75-year-old James Cowell and 70-year-old Joanne Cowell were taken to Mercy Hospital St. Louis by the Eureka Fire Protection District.

 

According to the highway patrol report, the Cowells were eastbound on I-44 in their 2011 GMC Sierra, towing a trailer, when a 2014 Chevrolet Spark, driven by 65-year-old Lawrence D. Elbert of Collinsville struck the trailer. The Cowell’s pick up and trailer jack-knifed and ran off the roadway and overturned. The front left tire of the pick up came off and returned to the roadway striking an east bound Toyota Tundra driven by 22-year-old Bailey Barrett of Calvert City, Kentucky and an east bound 2018 Lincoln Continental driven by 55-year-old Cynthia D. Cimaglio of McCordsville, Indiana. They were not hurt.

 

The crash happened about 11:45 a.m east of Antire Road.

 

Everyone was buckled up.
