Air quality: April, May good; June, not so good so far

PERRYVILLE – Jeremy Tanz, the executive director of the Southeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission has updated the organization’s membership on the latest air quality report.

“It has been about a month and a half since my last ozone update to the group, and as they say, no news is good news.  The readings since April 17th through the end of May were relatively good with a spike on April 29th with a 62ppb on the Bonne Terre monitor and a 65 ppb on the Farrar monitor.

“Overall the average readings for both monitors was 45 ppb for the month of April and 40 ppb at Bonne Terre and 44 ppb at Farrar in May.

“There was only one day of moderate air quality in April on the 29th with the spike.

“May experienced 5 days of moderate air quality, but only on the Farrar monitor, the Bonne Terre monitor maintained good air quality the entire month.

“June however is starting to be much more troubling.  With data only through June 5th, only the 1st and 2nd were good air quality days with the 3rd through the 5th well into the moderate zone.  Those three days had readings from 60 to 66 ppb edging closer to the 70 ppb threshold.
