Pollinator Garden Planted at Levee Refuge

A group of local volunteers planted a pollinator garden at the parking lot of the Levee Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, September 26th. The garden surrounds the refuge information kiosk at the end of Stormy Crawford Way. The project was coordinated by Mary Elise Sampson of the Levee Refuge Committee and Jared Nance of the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Additional volunteers included personnel from the National Park Service, Fort de Chartres, City of Ste. Genevieve Levee Refuge Committee and local citizens.  Funding for the project was provided with a grant from the Ste. Genevieve County Community Foundation.

The Ste. Genevieve Levee Wildlife Refuge was dedicated in 2021 to utilize the area outside the Urban Design Levee for recreational use. In 2023, it became part of the Middle-Mississippi National Wildlife Refuge system managed by the Fish and Wildlife Service.
