The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) in the Midwest Region fell 0.2% in July, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported today. The energy index decreased 1.9%, largely due to a decline in gasoline prices. The all items less food and energy index declined 0.1% over the month, while the index for food was unchanged.
The Midwest Region all items CPI-U rose 3.5% for the 12 months ending in July. The index for all items less food and energy rose 2.7% over the year, while the energy index advanced 14.2%. The index for food was up 2.8%.
