IML comments on state budget regarding local government distributive fund

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Municipal League (IML) issued the following statement in response to Illinois General Assembly passage of the State Fiscal Year 2027 Budget, which maintains the current 6.47% of income tax revenue that local governments receive:

“The Illinois Municipal League appreciates the General Assembly’s collaboration with local officials throughout the State Fiscal Year 2027 Budget process. We are pleased lawmakers recognized the importance of the Local Government Distributive Fund (LGDF) to communities across Illinois and chose not to reduce current funding rates,” said IML Chief Executive Officer Brad Cole. “LGDF is a critical funding source that helps Illinois cities, villages and towns support essential local services, including mandated pension obligations, public safety, infrastructure improvements and other vital community programs. While we are encouraged that Governor JB Pritzker’s proposed reduction to LGDF was not included in the final budget, full restoration of LGDF remains a top priority for IML and municipal leaders.”
