Ste. Genevieve County election draws little interest

STE. GENEVIEVE – Only 1,006 of Ste. Genevieve County’s 13,562 or 7.4 percent went to the polls Tuesday for the April 7 election.

They approved the county’s six percent tourism tax 549 to 443 or 55.34 to 44.66 percent.

In Ste. Genevieve:Ward One Alderman: Patrick Fahey was unopposed with 49 votes. There was one write in. Ward Two Alderman Robert (Bob) Donovan was unopposed with 47 votes. There were two write in votes.Ward Three Alderman Jeff Eydmann was unopposed with 59 votes. He had three write in votes.Ward Four Alderman Joseph (Joe) D. Prince was unopposed with 72 votes. He had six write in votes.

In St. Mary, Adam Bequette was unopposed for re-election as mayor with 33 votes, but did attract six write ins.

Ward One Alderman: Brian Helms had 12 votes to Frank Gerardot’s two; 85.71 to 14.29 percent. Ward Two Alderman: Rose Rosenzweig had 20 votes to Tyler Urban’s 13, 57.14 to 37.14. There were two write in votes.

St. Mary bond issue for the water and wastewater systems: 32 yes, 17 no; 65.31 to 34.69 percent.
