CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Lutheran Family and Children’s Services (LFCS), with offices serving St. Louis, Cape Girardeau, Springfield, Missouri, and Mid-Missouri, is raising awareness about a critical issue facing Missouri families: diaper need. A lack of funding is depleting diaper banks across the state, including LFCS’s Cape Girardeau office, which is vital in distributing diapers to parents struggling to afford this basic necessity.
“In Missouri, rising diaper costs – often exceeding $100 a month – are forcing families to make a heartbreaking choice: buy diapers or put food on the table,” said Christy O’Neal, Regional Development Officer for LFCS in Cape Girardeau. “Diapers are not a luxury. They are essential for a child’s health and development.”
LFCS offices throughout Missouri are actively seeking diaper donations of all sizes and brands, including those your child no longer needs after outgrowing a size or potty training.
Diaper need is a growing problem nationwide, and Cape Girardeau is no exception. Nationally, one in two U.S. families struggles with diaper needs, according to the National Diaper Bank Network.
LFCS is a proud partner in the Missouri Coalition of Diaper Banks, a statewide network that fights for diaper access for Missouri families. To make a donation, please contact Christy.ONeal@lfcs.org or 573-708-6360. For more information, visit the LFCS website.
