Gerald Robert Guemmer

A funeral will be held Thursday, April 25, 2024 for 74-year-old Gerald Robert Guemmer of Jacksonville, Ala., formerly of Perryville, Mo., who passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital.

He was born November 23, 1949 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. a son of Robert and Viola (Koenig) Guemmer, who both preceded him in death.

He and Ramona Ingram were married on September 19, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Survivors also include a daughter: Sarah (Jacob) Fiehler; son: Billy Thomas; two brothers: Donald (Gail) Guemmer and Timothy (Elizabeth) Guemmer; two sisters:  Connie Lausen and Debra Masiel; four grandchildren: Ella and Vivian Fiehler, Brenden and Emma Thomas, and numerous loved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gerald served in the United States Navy on the USS Agerholm.

Once he returned from the Vietnam War, he worked commercial construction as a project manager for ICS Construction Services and Newground in St. Louis, Mo.

He was a proud member of American Legion Post No. 57 in Jacksonville, Ala. and American Legion Post No. 133 in Perryville, Mo.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and gardening.

In his pastime, he enjoyed watching and cheering on the University of Alabama Crimson Tide and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Ford & Young Funeral Home in Perryville.

A funeral for 74-year-old Gerald Robert Guemmer of Jacksonville, Ala., formerly of Perryville, Mo., will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2026 at the Ford & Young Funeral Home.

A committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2024 at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Wounded Warrior Project or Missouri National Veterans Memorial in Perryville.
