The ‘Bee Friendly’ license plate is approved

LEBANON, Mo. – The Missouri State Beekeeping Association has announced approval of a “Bee Friendly” Missouri license plate.

“We are proud to announce that thanks to a very large amount of support (over 700 people in the first few days) and a lot of hard work from the MSBA executive committee including an in person trip to the state capitol, we have received word that the Bee Friendly License plate has been unanimously approved by the Joint Committee of Transportation and Oversight in the 2024 legislative session.  We have been given permission to start taking official applications and will be sending out information on how you can order your specialty license plate soon.”

Now the organization will will work with designers in the Missouri Department of Transportation to get an official license plate approved.

Then it will ask for online registrations, including applications to the DMV from those interested prior to printing of the plate. Fees for the plate include an ongoing $25 a year donation to MSBA’s efforts to promote bee conservation and bee keeping across the state and the standard DMV fee, both of which are customary for specialty registrations.

As soon as we have 200 completed applications and registration fees the DMV will begin printing the plates.

Those that sign up through MSBA will get the opportunity to be the first to receive the specialty plates.

Those that do not will get the chance to get their own but it will take awhile for the DMVs across the state to start having access to the specialty plate (so sign up with us first so we can get the first wave printed and off to the DMVs)

“MSBA will send out notices as soon as we are ready to start taking fees and as soon as we have the official specialty plate designed

“A big thanks to everyone for helping out and supporting this project.  We hope this will be a legacy project the promotes bees across the state for a long time to come.”
