Gerald F ‘Jerry’ Sutterer

A funeral will be held Friday, March 8, 2024 for 87-year-old Gerald F “Jerry” Sutterer who passed away March 2, 2024.

He was born June 24, 1936 in Perryville, Mo., a son of Eloy and Iola (Moll) Sutterer who preceded him in death.

He and Velda (Zoellner) Sutterer were married February 1, 1958 at Assumption Catholic Church in Perryville. She preceded him in death.

He is survived by a son: Patrick (Amy) Sutterer; two grandchildren: Jacob (Stephanie) Sutterer and Rachel Sutterer; three great grandchildren: Colt, Waylon and Jed, all of Perryville; a sister: Suzanne Gabriel of Chesterfield, Mo.; two sisters in law: Jeanette Sutterer and Geraldine Sutterer, both of Perryville; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Jim, Tom and Mike Sutterer; a brother-in-law: Steve Gabriel; and a sister-in-law: Theresa Sutterer.

Jerry was a 1955 graduate of St Vincent High School.

Upon graduation, he entered the US Army, completing training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Fort Knox, KY before being stationed at Ft Lewis, WA. Soon after arriving there, he was sent to Korea where he served as an aircraft records officer, stationed near the DMZ, serving 17 months and was honorably discharged in 1957.

Jerry was a member of St Vincent de Paul Parish. He was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member of Council 1263, and a member of American Legion Post 133.

Jerry was an electrical lineman for Citizens Electric Corp, retiring in 1999.

He later drove a school bus for Meyer Bus Line in Perryville.

Jerry enjoyed spending time with family and friends; he never had a bad day. His smile and wit always made people laugh, and he never passed up an opportunity to pick on someone, given the chance. He enjoyed working his garden, tinkering in his shop, and playing an occasional round of golf. His favorite days were those spent with his three great-grandsons, teaching them life skills from Jerry’s book of life, which usually got them all in trouble.
