Missouri representative seeks to combat rise of illegal Immigration

JEFFERSON CITY – In an effort to address the growing concern of illegal immigration in Missouri, Republican State Representative Chris Dinkins has introduced House Bill 2470, aimed at strengthening enforcement measures and protecting the integrity of the state’s borders.

HB 2470 specifically targets illegal aliens present in Missouri who enter or attempt to enter the country directly from a foreign nation at locations other than lawful ports of entry. Under the proposed legislation, such actions would constitute the offense of illegal entry, carrying penalties ranging from class B misdemeanors to class E felonies for repeat offenders.

“This bill is crucial to safeguarding our state and upholding the rule of law,” stated Representative Dinkins. “Illegal immigration poses significant challenges to our communities, from straining public resources to compromising public safety. If passed, HB 2470 will become the strongest anti-Illegal Immigration bill in the entire country and send a clear message that Missouri will not tolerate unlawful entry into our state and country.”

HB 2470 addresses the issue of refusal to comply with orders to return to a foreign nation, imposing stringent penalties, including class B felonies, for individuals who defy lawful directives. Furthermore, the legislation introduces provisions to penalize illegal aliens found guilty of trespassing and those who knowingly transport, conceal, or induce illegal aliens within the state. These offenses carry severe consequences, including class A felonies with a minimum 10-year sentence.

“In the face of escalating illegal immigration, it is imperative that we take decisive action to protect our citizens and uphold the sovereignty of our nation’s borders,” emphasized Representative Dinkins. “HB 2470 not only strengthens our enforcement capabilities but also ensures that those who flout our laws face appropriate consequences.”

The bill outlines protections for law enforcement officers and establishes guidelines for handling individuals arrested for violations outlined in the legislation, emphasizing due process and adherence to legal procedures.

As HB 2470 moves forward, Representative Dinkins urges bipartisan support for this crucial legislation, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts to address the challenges posed by illegal immigration in Missouri. “As we work to address the illegal immigration crisis, we’re also tackling a key aspect of the drug crisis. By securing our borders and cracking down on illegal entry, we’re cutting off avenues for drug trafficking, protecting our communities, and making strides towards a safer, drug-free Missouri.”

Rep. Chris Dinkins, a Republican, represents the counties of Wayne, Shannon, Madison, Reynolds, Iron, Washington, and Bollinger (District 144) in the Missouri House of Representatives. She was elected to her first term in a special election in February of 2018.
