STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve Rotary Club just completed phase three of its tree planting project along Progress Parkway.

For the past three years, the club has planted Ginkgo trees each fall along the roadway with matching funds provided by Rotary District 6060.

A total of 15 trees have been planted and now the club is anxiously waiting to see them provide shade for walkers in years to come.

Rotarians provided hands-on help in planting the trees; adding potting soil and mulch; and staking the trees. The club is extremely appreciative of additional assistance from Citizens Electric for using its auger to dig the holes and to Alliance Water for their help in watering the trees.

“I drove across Progress Parkway this morning to check out the trees,” said Jami Drury, Rotary Club President. “I reflected on the beauty of nature with the bright sun shining and fresh trees planted.  I believe this was time and money well spent bringing natural beauty to our community!”

Drury said the club has performed several service projects in its 50-year history, including the brick welcome sign on Highway 32; the gazebo at Bicentennial Park; and funding for numerous non-profit organizations in town.

“Community service involves activities of the club that help make the community a better place in which to live,” said Drury. “We invite anyone to join our service club which meets Tuesdays at noon at the Rozier’s Country Mart Party Room and help make a difference in our community.”
