STE. GENEVIEVE – Police in Ste. Genevieve are investigating a burglary and stabbing which was reported around 4:50 Wednesday morning.
Police Chief Jasen Crump says officers were dispatched to the 700 block of North Fourth Street. When Officers arrived on the scene, the suspect had already fled from the home.
Officers spoke with the female victim who stated she woke up to the sound of someone screaming in her back yard.
She opened her back door to see who was screaming and that is when she reports a male subject grabbed her by the throat and pushed her back into the home as he entered with her. The victim said her adult son, who resides in the home, heard her screaming for help and grabbed a knife and confronted the suspect.
During the confrontation, the suspect sustained a knife wound to the arm and fled from the house.
The adult son also sustained a minor puncture wound to the lower left arm during the confrontation.
Within 10 minutes of arriving on the scene, officers were able to locate a suspect within a block of the victim’s home and took him into custody without incident.
The suspect is identified as a 47 year old male with a St. Louis address. The suspect does have ties to the Ste. Genevieve area.
A report has been sent to the prosecuting attorney for formal charges.
A records check on the suspect does not show any prior felony convictions.
