Association of the Miraculous Medal celebrates 105th birthday

PERRYVILLE –The Association of the Miraculous Medal (AMM) was founded 105 years ago in Perryville, Missouri, at St. Mary’s of the Barrens Seminary College.

Established on this date in 1918 as a spiritual apostolate by priests of the Western Province of the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians), AMM has grown as a national center of devotion to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. This title honors the Blessed Mother for her gift of the Medal of the Immaculate Conception to the world through Saint Catherine Labouré in 1830.

More than 1,000,000 members are enrolled in AMM, which is one of two U.S.-based Associations and dozens of others worldwide dedicated to promoting the Miraculous Medal and Mary’s promise of intercession for all who turn to her with confidence.

AMM serves the universal Church through its members’ support of the apostolic works of the Vincentians.    Saint Mary’s of the Barrens Church is the crown jewel of the 53-acre campus and is home to the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, consturceted in 1929.  The beautifully manicured grounds feature a Rosary Walk, Marian Meditation Walk, and a grotto dedicated to Our Lady in 1920.

The National Shrine Church is the historic Mother House of the Congregation of the Mission in the Western Province of the United States and serves as the burial site of Venerable Felix de Andreis, first superior of the Vincentians in America.

Thousands of tourists and religious pilgrims visit each year while AMM members remain committed to continuing St. Catherine’s mission to draw the world closer to Jesus through the Blessed Mother.
