CHESTER – Randolph County Sheriff Jarrod Peters has announced the arrest of 30-year-old Morgan Schmidt of Prairie Du Rocher in connection to falsifying a report of Burglary at her home in Prairie Du Rocher.
On Monday February 27th, 2023, Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to 116 St. Louis Street in Prairie Du Rocher for a report of Residential Burglary. Responding Deputies took the initial report and requested Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services to process the home to secure any potential evidence.
The initial report stated that the residence was burglarized during the afternoon hours on February 27th, with $2400 cash, an Apple Watch and Apple iPad being stolen.
The ensuing investigation revealed inconsistencies in the timeline of events and the crime scene itself.
Ultimately, investigators believed the initial report was false, and the associated crime scene staged.
Schmidt was arrested on March 1st, 2023 for Obstructing Justice, a class 4 felony. Schmidt was released on March 3rd, 2023, on a $5000 recognizance bond.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
