PHS artists have strong showing at SEMO Art Show

PERRYVILLE – Eleven Perryville High School students have artwork on display in Exhibiting Excellence, the 45th Annual High School Art Exhibition, an invitational juried art exhibit for 11th- and 12th-grade students in southeast Missouri and southern Illinois. The artwork will be displayed at the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus through March 12.

This year’s juror is Bradley Phillips, professor in Photography & New Media, in the Department of Art and Design at Southeast Missouri State University.

“Ms. Heather White and I are so proud of our students,” said Mrs. Bettina Comstock, high school art teacher. “Seventeen schools submitted 233 entries for this year’s exhibition, and 86 were selected for the show. Our students have 18 of those selections, so the Pirates represent 20 percent of this year’s show! The competition was fierce, but we placed in several categories as well, including two first places, two second places, and two third place awards in the 10 different media categories.”

“Exhibiting Excellence showcases the amazing talent of local students and provides young artists an opportunity to display their work and receive professional and local recognition,” said Jim Phillips, museum manager and senior curator. “The students’ artwork is a testament to their abilities and skills, as well as the dedication and encouragement of their teachers,” Phillips said. “This must-see exhibition celebrates the students’ hard work and encourages their future artistic abilities.”
