CARBONDALE, Ill. — There are countless ways to make math easier to comprehend and to enable people to better learn it, and that’s what Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s 37th annual Conference on Teaching Mathematics is all about. The conference, coordinated by Conference and Scheduling Services, provides valuable ideas and information for teachers, college students or anyone with an interest in math.
It all takes place Feb. 16 at the Hancock Conference Center on the campus of John A. Logan College in Carterville, and registration is now underway.
Eclectic group of experienced speakers
Alan Zollman, professor of mathematics education at Indiana University Southeast, will be the keynote presenter. A diverse array of speakers will also present at the conference, including classroom teachers who will share a wide variety of tested ideas, practices and materials for teaching math to all grade levels. Topics will run the gamut, from skills-based teaching to using technology, from songs and games for math skills to “Minion mathematics” and more.
Plans also call for honoring the late Jerry Becker, SIU’s longtime mathematics education professor who organized the conference for many years prior to his passing in April 2022.
All educators who teach pre-kindergarten through sophomore college level, as well as anyone with an interest in math education, will find key insights and information at the conference.
