Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl art contest opens Oct. 13

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Lebanon Sunbonnet Federated Garden Club invites children in grades first through fifth to participate in the annual Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl poster contest. Children may drop off entries Wednesdays through Sundays Oct. 13-30 at the Bennett Spring State Park Nature Center. Also, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. those days the Nature Center will provide supplies for children to create their artwork.

From 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 15 Missouri black bear items and information will be on display at the Nature Center. At noon Woodsy Owl will make an appearance followed by a live owl program presented by Dickerson Park Zoo at 1 p.m.

Woodsy Owl is a conservation icon whose message is “Lend a hand, care for the land!” The park supports the community’s efforts in recycling, reusing and reducing waste. Using resources wisely and not littering is appreciated at the park.
