CHS Boys’ Golf wins at Red Bud

Chance Mott leads Chester with score of 39

CHESTER –  The Chester High School Yellow Jacket Golf Team traveled to Red Bud Thursday September 22 to challenge the Musketeers in a 9-hole Thursday afternoon match.

The Jackets played well under the coaching of Chris Toledo, CHS Head Coach and Paul Zemlyn, Assistant Coach.  Chester defeated the Red Bud Musketeers by a score of 165-173.

Coach Toledo said, “The boys picked up another win Thursday September 22 at North County Country Club in Red Bud, beating the Musketeers, 165-173.  With the win the Jackets improved to 32-19 for the year.”

Chester’s Evan Dunning set a new Personal-Best Record (PR) at the Red Bud match Thursday September 22 with his 9-hole score of 40 strokes.  Dunning, a CHS sophomore is just in his second year as a YellowJacket golfer and has shown improvement throughout the 2022 season. Jim Beers Photo

“Chance Mott was medalist with a round of 39 (+4), while sophomores Evan Dunning and Noah Homan both set new PR’s.”

Chester was paced by Chance Mott who shot 39 (+4), followed by Clayton Andrews 41 (+6), Noah Homan 42 PR (+7), Gage Hasemeyer 43 (+8), Aidan Blechle 44 (+9), and Lucas Thompson 50 (+15).

The Top-10 standings included Chance Mott, Chester (1st, 39); Ryker Papenberg, Red Bud (2nd, 40); Clayton Andrews, Chester (3rd, 41); Gentry Donjon, Red Bud (4th Tie, 42); Noah Homan, Chester (4th Tie, PR, 42); Gage Hasemeyer, Chester (6th, 43); Aidan Blechle, Chester (7th, 44); Kruz Koester, Red Bud (8th, 45); Cash Langrehr, Red Bud (9th, 46); Owen Stallings, Red Bud (10th, 48); and Lucas Thompson, Chester (11th, 50).

Chester’s Junior Varsity (JV) results include: Evan Dunning (40) which is a personal-Best for Evan (PR); and Max Blechle (53).

Coach Toledo said, “The boys will travel to Murphysboro Monday September 26 for a match with the Red Devils at the Jackson County Country Club before the 2022 IHSA Regional Tournament Wednesday. Regionals will be held at the Franklin County Country Club at West Frankfort.
