Chester’s Aubrie Medford is Cahokia Conference Girls’ Golf Champion

 Camryn Luthy finishes 4th; Lady Jackets place 3rd as a team

CHESTER – Chester’s Aubrie Medford is the 2022 Cahokia Conference Girls’ Golf Champion!  Medford won the title with her 18-hole score of 81 to lead all girls at the 2022 Cahokia Conference Golf match.

Medford is a senior at Chester High School and has been either a No.1 or No.2 golfer for the Lady Jackets Golf Team throughout the 2022 season. 

When asked about her thoughts and feelings pertaining to her accomplishment, Medford hesitantly said, “I am very proud and excited.  Late in the match I had no idea I was in first place. Teammate Camryn (Luthy) told me that I was in first and I had no idea.  I have worked very hard to get here and I look forward to my Senior Day Monday and Regionals next Thursday!”

Medford won the medalist honor by just one stroke over Taylor Hettenhausen of Okawville who shot 82 for the match.  She was the 2022 Cahokia Conference Runner-Up.  Chester’s Camryn Luthy finished in 4th Place overall with her impressive round of 87, just 3-strokes behind Red Bud’s Brenn Wilson who shot 84 for 3rd Place.

Golf Instructor, Bruce Dowell, posted on Facebook this morning regarding Medford and said, “At 6:30 this morning, Chester High School’s Aubrie Medford texted me and said, “I am ready for this” and then went out and won the Illinois/Kaskaskia Cahokia Conference tournament. Aubrie has worked very hard on her game for the last couple of years, and she is seeing the results. Waking up this morning with the confidence and determination was just as impressive as the win! Congrats!”

Last year, Chester’s Camryn Luthy of Chester High School earned the title of Small Division individual Champion.  She was just a sophomore at the time. Luthy shot an 88 and finished just one stroke ahead of Red Bud’s Brenn Wilson, a junior, who shot 89.

The Girls’ Conference Tournament was an 18-hole event and took place Thursday September 22, 2022 at the Roland Barkau Memorial Golf Course in Okawville.  The tournament featured seven girls’ teams and from both the Illinois and Kaskaskia Divisions of the Cahokia Conference. There were 41 ladies who competed in the tournament.

Chester, Carlyle, Red Bud, Sparta, and Okawville are from the Illinois Division while Marisa and New Athens are from the Kaskaskia Division. All seven of the teams are IHSA Division 1A.

The Top-10 golfers were named to the 2022 Cahokia Conference “All-Conference” team. Girls that are included in that elite group are Aubrie Medford, Champion, Chester (1st, 81,  senior); Taylor Hettenhausen, Okawville (2nd, 82, junior); Brenn Wilson, Red Bud (3rd, 84, senior); Camryn Luthy, Chester (4th, 87, junior); Abby Steinkamp, Carlyle (5th, 94, freshman); Annabeth Ohlau, Red Bud (6th, 96, sophomore); Josie Stephens, Marissa (7th, 97, junior); Maddie Ehrhard, Dupo (8th, 100, junior);  Sydney Rheinecker, Sparta (9th, 101 senior), and Cameryn Pollmann, Carlyle (10th, 104, freshman).

Other finishers include Miranda Rodewald, Steeleville (11th Tie, 107, FR); Ellie Frederking, Okawville (11th Tie, 107, SR); Macie Staley, Okawville (13th Tie, 110, SR); Raeleigh Rosson, Red Bud (13th Tie, 110, SO); Ella Rolfingsmeyer, Carlyle (15th Tie, 113, SO); Emma Meyer, Carlyle (15th Tie, 113, JR); Addie Gansauer, Carlyle (17th, 114, FR); Gabby Dethrow Sparta (18th, 115, JR); Kendyl Meyer, Carlyle (19th, 116, SO); and Becca Root, Marissa (20th, 117, JR).

Final finishers include Jessica Stumpe, Chester (31st, 128, FR); Taylor Demsar, Marissa (32nd Tie, 129, FR); Paige Riechmann, Okawville (32nd Tie, 129, SR); Olivia Kratz, Marissa (34th, 133, JR); Abby Blank, New Athens (35th, 134, SR); Emmy Robinson, Dupo (36th, 136, JR); Katherine Bishop, Red Bud (37th, 140, SO); Reese Duquette, New Athens (398th, 141, SR); Addy Gottschammer, Chester, ( 39th, 142, FR); Kaitlynn Wiley, Marissa (40th, 150, FR); and Shelby Barker, Steeleville (41st, 153, JR). .

The 2022 Team Champion was the Red Bud Lady Musketeers with a score of 411.  The Okawville Lady Rockets finished in 2nd Place, just eight strokes behind Red Bud with a team score of 419 strokes.

The Chester High School Lady Jacket Golf Team finished 3rd overall in the 2022 Cahokia Conference Golf Tournament.  The event took place Thursday September 22 at the Roland Barkau Memorial Golf Course in Okawville, Illinois. The Chester Lady YellowJackets placed 3rd with 422 strokes, just 11 strokes behind 1st Place Red Bud and just 3 strokes behind 2nd Place Okawville.

Other finishers included the Carlyle Lady Indians (4th, 424); the Sparta Lady Bulldogs (5th, 458); the Marissa Lady Meteors (6th, 467); and the New Athens Lady Jackets (7th, 517).

Chester’s top finisher was senior Aubrie Medford with a score of 81 strokes, good enough to earn her the title of Cahokia Conference CHAMPION and an “All-Conference” selection. Camryn Luthy, a junior, finished 2nd for Chester with a score of 87 strokes.

Rylie Myers, a freshman, finished 3rd for the Jackets with her score of 126 strokes.  Jessica Stumpe, another freshman, finish 4th for CHS with a score of 128.  Freshman Addy Gottschammer was Chester’s 5th finisher with her performance of 142 strokes.

The Lady Jacket’s No. 3 golfer, Macy Bert, a freshman, had to withdraw from the competition after the 5th hole due to the re-injury of a previous ailment she has been battling most of the season.

CHS Head Girls’ Coach, Meg Schnoeker is in just her second year of coaching the Chester Lady Jackets. Schnoeker said, “The Lady Jackets traveled to Okawville today for their conference tournament.  It was a successful day as they took third as a team, falling only 11 strokes behind Red Bud’s winning team score.”

“Senior Aubrie Medford played an awesome round which earned her the title of this year’s champion. In addition, junior Camryn Luthy placed 4th individually to earn her a spot on the All-Conference Team!”

The Lady Jackets will host Red Bud and Trico Monday September 26 for Aubrie Medford’s “Senior Day” and final home match.  This event will take place at the Chester Country Club and tee-off is at 4:00 p.m.

Thursday September 29 the Lady Jackets will compete in the 2022 IHSA Regional Tournament at Carlyle at 4:00 p.m.
