Heritage Commission turns down grant

STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve Heritage Commission has decided to turn down a National Register and Survey Grant.

The action came during the commission’s August 15, 2022 meeting.

According to the minutes of the meeting released Tuesday, Community Development Administrator David Bova was the bearer of some bad news. He said the survey project for which the Heritage Commission applied for and received the National Register and Survey Grant would not be sufficient to meet the goal it was trying to accomplish.

Community Development Administrator David Bova explained the reasons for the determination and shared that the State Historic Preservation Office did offer some possible project alternatives but those involve a change of scope and possibly a change in budget which would then require approval by the commission and the Board of Aldermen and then be sent to the SHPO for approval also.

The Heritage Commission members agreed that the best course of action at this time would be to decline the grant and focus on another Planing and Outreach Grant.
