Missouri’s agricultural organizations issue joint statement on call for special session

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Like Governor Parson, we are disappointed that agriculture tax credit programs were only authorized for two years rather than the typical six-year term and support his call to fully extend these rural tax incentives. We would be remiss to not state our appreciation to the legislators who supported the compromise package as passed in HB 1720.
The bill contained multiple value-added tax incentive programs that would have strengthened rural communities, expanded meat processing capabilities, promoted ethanol and biodiesel production, and supported entrepreneurial agribusiness ventures. HB 1720 also streamlined anhydrous ammonia regulations and modified definitions to benefit the state’s forestry industry—these important provisions will unfortunately not be addressed in the call for a Special Session.
We support Governor Parson’s call for a special session and will work with him and state legislators to fully extend agriculture and rural tax credits that were approved in HB 1720.
