A funeral will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2022 for 74-year-old Linda Jeanne Layton of Perryville, Missouri who passed away Friday, May 13, 2022 at Independence Care Center in Perryville.
She was born April 13, 1948 in Trenton, NJ to Walter L. and Merl Jean (Markham) Black, who both preceded her in death.
She married Stanley P. Layton June 12, 1971 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Survivors include a son: Shane T. Layton of Lubbock, Texas; and a brother: Michael Black of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Lance P. Layton.
She received a Masters degree in Education at Southeast Missouri State College and taught English at Perryville High School for seven years and St. Vincent de Paul in Perryville for 32 years.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus Council 1263 and also the ADK Sorority.
Linda enjoyed reading, watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball, was a dedicated supporter of St. Vincent de Paul Athletics, and was a big fan of Elvis.
She loved going on cruises and visiting Disney World with her family.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2022 and 8-9:40 a.m. Wednesday May 18, 2022 with Rosary recited at 9:15 a.m. at Ford & Young Funeral Home in Perryville.
A funeral mass will follow at 10 a.m. Wednesday May 18, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Ben Melaku C.M. officiating.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope in Perryville.
