Vehicle in carport may have started Thursday house fire

PERRYVILLE – A vehicle parked under a carport may have sparked Thursday’s fire at a Perry County home.

Jeremy Triller, with the Perryville Fire Department, has provided additional details of the blaze.

The fire was reported about 5:40 p.m.

The Perryville, Biehle, Rural Fire, East Perry County and Chester Fire Departments responded to the scene at 4447 Route E, also known as Allen’s Landing Road.

The fire started somewhere in the carport area, possibly in a vehicle which was parked there, Triller said.

The five occupants of the home, two adults and three children, were in the home at the time the blaze broke out. They were able to get out okay.

Triller said the first indication something was going on was when the residents said they heard a noise outside and one of them started feeling heat inside a bedroom.

Once they got out of the house, they discovered a vehicle which was in the carport was fully involved and the fire had already spread to the house.

Triller said the fire got into the attic and started burning through the attic. Firefighters tried to stop the blaze in the attic.

He said the house is a total loss.

They were able to save some kids clothing and a few other items.

Authorities closed Route E while the battle to fight the fire was underway.
