Youth Fishing Day is June 6 at Ripley Lake near Doniphan, MO

ROLLA – In celebration of National Fishing and Boating Week, the Eleven Point Ranger District of the Mark Twain National Forest will host a youth fishing day at Ripley Lake, weather permitting, on Saturday, June 6, 2026. Participation is open to all kids ages 2-15. Fishing licenses are not required June 6 and 7, 2026 throughout the state of Missouri, but size and daily limits still apply.

The free event takes place from 8 a.m. to noon. The first 50 kids will be awarded fishing gear! The U.S. Forest Service has limited fishing gear to borrow, so participants should bring their own equipment and bait.

The event aims to promote and introduce kids to fishing on public lands. Forest Service staff and Doniphan Future Farmers of America members will be on hand to assist with angling techniques and instruction. The Missouri Department of Conservation recently stocked hundreds of fish in Ripley Lake to increase angler success. Games, crafts, and giveaways will also be available.

The Ripley County Fire Department and Doniphan City Police Department will provide grilled hot dogs, chips, cookies, and beverages for lunch! Participants are also encouraged to bring their own water, snacks, and chairs.

Children MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

If heavy rain, thunderstorms, or lightning are predicted for the morning of June 6, the event will be rescheduled for June 13.
