CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO – Southeast Missouri State University is encouraging new first-time undergraduate and new first-time transfer undergraduate students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by offering a special scholarship incentive.
To promote early financial planning, SEMO will award through a random drawing, 10 scholarships of $1,000 each to eligible students who complete the FAFSA by February 1. First-time undergraduate freshmen and first-time undergraduate transfer students who are admitted to the University for the fall 2026 or spring 2027 semesters are eligible for a chance at the scholarship.
“Completing the FAFSA is a crucial part of the college process,” said Matthew Kearney, director of student financial services. “Ensuring students hit all of their deadlines will help them get as much financial aid as they possibly can.”
The FAFSA determines a student’s eligibility for a wide range of financial aid options including Pell Grants, state grants, work-study opportunities and student loans. This additional scholarship opportunity encourages students to get started in preparing for college while also giving them a chance to affordably work toward their future.
For more information on completing the FAFSA visit semo.edu/fafsa. For more information about promotions for fall 2026 new students, visit semo.edu/promotions.
