YellowJacket Golf finishes out 2026 regular season

Senior Trevin Eggemeyer will compete at 2026 IHSA Class 1A State Golf Tournament

            The 2026 Chester High School Golf Team finished out its 2026 regular season with several matches over the past month. It has been a good season for both the Varsity and JV Teams, with both recording some very impressive results.

The Junior Varsity included seniors Logan Brace, and Logan McDonald, juniors Kendall Krieg and Logan Springston, sophomore, Preston Liefer, and freshman, Jake Dunn.

The Varsity competed at Regionals and Sectionals, sending one player, Trevin Eggemeyer, to the 2026 IHSA Class 1A State Meet on Friday October 9, 2026. The Junior Varsity Team featured overall winner, Preston Liefer, and Jake Dunn who finished in the Top-10, in 10th Place. Results from several of the final matches of the season follow.

CHS at Nashville

            The Jackets traveled to Nashville for the 2026 Nashville Invitational. This was a 11in -team event with Chester finishing 6th with a score of 172, just 2-strokes behind 5th Place Sparta who recorded a 170. Tallen James finished in the Top-10 in 6th Place with his match of 39 strokes. Kross Jany had a good day finishing two strokes out of the Top-10 with his score of 42. Jany finished 2nd on Chester’s team.

Chester’s Trevin Eggemeyer, a senior Varsity golfer, earned a trip to the 2026 IHSA Class 1A State Golf Tournament, not to observe, but to compete in Round 1 Friday October 9. He shot 76 on his 18-hole Sectional Golf Tournament to finish 5th overall and qualify to advance to the State Match. If he advances out of Round 1, Eggemeyer will play in the Championship Round 2 Saturday October 10. The State Tournament is held at the Prairie Vista Golf Course at Bloomington, Illinois.

IHSA Class 1A Regional Golf Tournament

            Chester competed in the 2026 IHSA Class 1A Regional Tournament Wednesday September 30. The YellowJacket’s top golfer was Trevin Eggemeyer with his game of 76 strokes. He finished in 5th Place. Tallen James was right behind in 8th Place with his score of 78 strokes. The Jackets finished in 3rd Place overall out of 15 teams.

Steeleville Junior Varsity Tournament

            The Chester JV YellowJackets Golf Team traveled to Steeleville, Illinois on Thursday October 1 to play in the 2026 Steeleville JV Golf Tournament. Chester’s Preston Liefer, a sophomore, won the tournament with a score of 42 strokes.

 All CHS golfers did well! Teammate Jake Dunn, a freshman, finished in the Top-10 with his game of 48 strokes. Two other YellowJacket golfers finished within one stroke of Dunn’s game of 48 as Logan Brace, a senior, and Kendall Krieg, a junior, had identical scores of 49 strokes. Logan McDonald, a senior, rounded out the Chester team effort just five strokes behind Brace and Krieg with his score of 54 strokes.

2026 IHSA Class 1A Sectional Golf Tournament

            The Chester YellowJacket Golf Team competed in its final team event of the season Monday October 5 when they traveled to Waterloo for the 2026 IHSA Class 1A Sectional Golf Tournament. The match took place at the Annbriar Golf Course which is known to be a pretty rough course. Gibault Catholic High School hosted the event.

            There were 12 Class 1A teams that competed at the 2026 Sectional Tournament. A total of 112 boys participated in the 18-hole match. The Top-3 teams advanced to the 2026 IHSA Class 1A State Golf Tournament. Furthermore, the Top-10 individuals that were not a part of the Top-3 advancing teams also qualified to advance to State.

            There were 112 students from 41-different schools that competed at the Sectional Match.   The 41 participating schools included DuQuoin, Palmyra, Marisa, Pittsfield, Eldorado, Chester, Greenville, Maryville, Roxana, Red Bud, Sparta, Carmi-White Co., Trenton-Wesclin, Carlinville, Okawville, Goreville, Trico, Hillsboro, Griggsville, Norris City, Mendon, Steeleville, Staunton, Zeigler-Royalton, Carlyle, Eldorado, Roxana, Mt. Sterling, Winchester, Maryville, McLeansboro-Hamilton Co., Camp Point, Liberty, Gibault-Catholic, Tamms-Egyptian, Harrisburg, Pinckneyville, Vienna, Waverly, Woodlawn, and Junction-Gallatin Co.

            Of the 12 teams that competed, three advanced as a team to the State Tournament. Those advancing teams included:

Chester YellowJacket Trevin Eggemeyer will compete at the 2026 IHSA Class 2A State Golf Tournament Friday October 9 at the Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington, Illinois. There will be 12 teams and 40 individuals tee off at 10:18 a.m. on the Par 72 course that has hosted five State Finals.

After the first round on Friday October 9th, the field of competitors is cut to the Top-8 teams and the Top-40 individuals who are not on those Top-8 teams.
