Virginia Anna Mae (formerly Baer) Moonier

Our beloved mother, Virginia Anna Mae (formerly Baer) Moonier, 96, was called home at 10:37 am on Friday, March 6, 2026, at San Gabriel Memory Care, Godfrey, IL.

She was born on July 8, 1929, in Perryville, MO, to Herman and Anna (Berkbigler) Baer.

She married Alvin Joseph Moonier on April 22, 1950, in their hometown of Perryville. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2015.

Virginia had several careers working with the public, but found her passion in fine jewelry as Department Manager for the May Company, a subsidiary of JC Penney. After long time residents of Perryville, the family relocated in 1966 to Crystal City, MO, for her husband’s employment. In 2000, they relocated to Godfrey, IL. She and Alvin attended St. Ambrose Catholic Church. They enjoyed their property at Lake of the Ozarks for many years, but decided to sell and become Florida Snowbirds for 17 years to enjoy the sunshine and warmer weather. While in Florida, she and Alvin enjoyed music and formed their band with other musicians and became “The Country Singers.” Both sang, while Alvin played the guitar and Virginia played the keyboard. They made many friends and formed a bond with many folks Their band performed at many functions in their park and throughout their Florida community. Virginia had many special talents as a skilled craftswoman. She especially loved basket weaving, Swedish weaving, and quilting making items for friends and family. In addition, she loved to garden, arrange flowers, puzzles, and all kinds of card and board games. Most of all she loved spending time with friends and family. She will be deeply missed by all her knew her as a kind, generous and loving person.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Sharon Anne (Jeff) Campbell of Godfrey; two sons, Randall Joseph “RJ” (Esther) Moonier of St. Charles, Missouri; and Kenneth Lee “Ken” (Janell) Moonier of Crystal City, Missouri; her sisters-in-law, Mary Cottner and Joann (Joan) Moonier. She had four grandchildren: Brooke Moonier, Derrick (Christina) Moonier, Brandon (Erica) Moonier, and Jeris (Brandy) Moonier; and eight great-grandchildren, Jersey, Brynn, Eliza, Jakob, Jionni, Jaxon, Tate, and Ellie Jo.

In addition to her husband and parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her sisters, Dorothy Cecilia Hunt in 2013 and Viola Marie Lowes in 2014.

Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 9:30 am on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Ford & Young Funeral Home in Perryville.

Memorial Service will be at 10:00 am Saturday, March 28, 2026 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville with Rev. Joe Geders C.M. officiating.

Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Perryville.

Memorial contributions may be given to Alzheimer’s Association.
