In addition to earning top grades, she cared for her family and maintained an immaculate house.
The choice to pursue her education was for the betterment of her children and she serves as inspiration for any who knew her. She graduated with her Associate’s Degree from Mineral Area College, Bachelor’s Degree from Southeast Missouri State University, and Master’s Degree from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis.

In addition to overcoming two cancer diagnoses (lymphoma age 23, breast cancer age 71), she survived five heart valve replacements, including the first in-human transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement via partial thoracotomy, transforming cardiac care and improving outcomes for individuals impacted by heart disease.
For many years she served as an officer for the National Association of Social Workers to help ensure the integrity of her profession. She was a former member of the NESS board ensuring support for victims of abuse.
