Tilden man sentenced to 180 years for child sexual assault

SPARTA — A 67-year-old Tilden man has been sentenced to 180 years in prison in connection with charges of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

Clyde J. Thibodeau was charged with eight counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child for offenses that took place over a 50-year span in Randolph County, Illinois.

Thibodeau appeared in court in Chester Monday and entered a guilty plea to three counts of predatory sexual assault of a child. Each charge carried with it a 60-year sentence with a combined 180 years to be served consecutively.

The Sparta Police Department thanks Officer Adam Diercks, Illinois Attorney General’s Office and the Randolph County State’s Attorney’s Office for all the hard work put in on this case.

The Sparta Police Department also gives its respect to the victims of these crimes and for those who came forward to put an end to what had been taking place for approximately 50 years. “They are the true heroes, and we are glad that they received justice today.”
