Three Florida residents hurt in I-55 crash

JEFFERSON CITY – Three Florida residents were hurt, one of them seriously, in a traffic crash on I-55 in Ste. Genevieve County Sunday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports a 23-year-old woman had serious injuries and was taken to St Louis University Hospital by an Air Evac helicopter. Two other occupants of the vehicle had moderate injuries: the 30-year-old male driver and a 31-year-old male passenger were both taken to Mercy Hospital South by Ste. Genevieve County ambulance.

The patrol says the crash happened when the 33-year-old male driving a northbound 2025 Kia Soul fell asleep and the car ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. (The MSHP report gives two different ages for the driver).

The patrol says none of the occupants were buckled up.

The crash happened about 5:55 a.m. Sunday at the 147-mile marker or about three miles south of Route 32 exit.

The Kia had extensive damage and was towed by Boyd’s Towing.
