JEFFERSON CITY, MO — Tomorrow marks the start of the 2026 Unclaimed Property Auction, beginning with the first event preview tomorrow night, August 26, at 5:00 PM at the Hilton Garden Inn Conference Center in Columbia, MO.
The auction preview gives buyers an opportunity to walk through the venue and get a look at the items up for auction before it is time to bid. The Treasurer’s team inventories items from approximately 1,000 boxes every year. We will have over 2,000 items up for sale this year, which is just a portion of the inventory. A full catalog of all inventory can be found online at https://treasurer.mo.gov/auction.
In 2025, the Unclaimed Property Auction generated over $319,000 in total sales, which was the highest the auction had generated in the past 15 years. This event draws buyers from across the region to purchase unclaimed property through public auction to the highest bidder.
“After reaching a new height in funds returned to Missourians again this year, returning nearly $61 Million in Unclaimed Property, I am hopeful that this year will generate a new high in total Unclaimed Property Auction proceeds,” said Treasurer Vivek Malek. “Returning unclaimed property to its rightful owner is always a top priority whether in the form of physical property or proceeds of the annual auction.”

Items at the Unclaimed Property Auction are turned over from safe deposit boxes after they have been left for roughly five years with no contact from the owner. Real estate and certain types of personal property such as vehicles are not held by the Treasurer’s Office as Unclaimed Property. Proceeds from the items auctioned are held for the owner, until they or their heirs come forward to claim.
