Steeleville man charged with violating sex offender registration law

CHESTER – Randolph County (Ill.) Sheriff Jarrod Peters has announced the arrest of a 48-year-old Steeleville, Ill. man for violating the Sexual Offender Registration Act.

In a news release, the sheriff explained that Khristopher M. Diercks is a registered sexual predator in Randolph County and is required to register all necessary information with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office per the Sex Offender Registration Act.

Sheriff Peters stated. “It was discovered that Diercks was making posts on a social media platform under an alias and tagging the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office social media page in those posts. The activity drew attention to the potential violation of the Sex Offender Registration Act, which requires all sex offenders to register information pertaining to social media accounts. An investigation into the matter confirmed that Diercks had failed to register the required information from his social media account.”

Sheriff Peters said an arrest warrant was issued on Diercks for Unlawful Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

On Tuesday, September 10, 2025 Diercks was arrested and taken into custody.  Diercks is currently incarcerated at the Randolph County Jail.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office is tasked with monitoring the registration of all sex offenders within the county and we take that responsibility very serious.

“We will continue to monitor every sex offender in our county to make sure they are in full compliance of the law,” Sheriff Peters said. “The investigation is still ongoing.”

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.”
