STE, GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve Militia group held its fall encampment Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025 on the grounds of the Centre for French Colonial Life.
Over 150 visitors, many of them families, toured the camp where they experienced the role of the militia, its equipment, and life in general during the colonial period.
The visitors were also able to learn about colonial activities such as woodworking, wool spinning, rag doll making, children’s games, fire starting, cooking over an open fire, military drill, and musket firing.
The event included a memorial service for a recently departed camp member Pete Zaleska, a long-time colonial reenactor.
The Ste. Genevieve Militia, a member of Seven Year War, Inc., participates in Ste. Genevieve events throughout the year with a mission to help tell the story of Ste. Genevieve’s wonderful history.
