The Ste. Genevieve County Commission (SGCC) has filed a legal action against the Community Center Foundation of Ste. Genevieve County (CCF) due to the Board of Director’s lack of regard for the county’s requests for funding.
After several months of notifying the CCF of the necessity of accessing funds per the Funding Agreement of 1998, the board of directors have failed to communicate and then retreated to a legal firm to access county documentation.
As a result, per legal counsel, the county provided the requested documentation and over several months has received no response to the requests for funding in violation of the existing funding agreement.
The SGCC has requested funding for – among other things – the repayment of a loan of $210,000 from the county’s general revenue funds for the community center operations for fiscal year 2025 with the promise of repayment that was not honored. The county has also requested $174,000 to replace the Community Center gymnasium floor that has been deficient for years and a source of many complaints.
In clarification, the funding requested from the CCF will not be for the operations of the YMCA, but for maintenance and upgrades to the facility that is still owned by the county of Ste. Genevieve. The YMCA does and will advise the county on any maintenance and upgrades that best fit their operations.
The SGCC has not requested funding from the CCF since 2018.
The Ste. Genevieve County Commission regrets the necessity of filing this litigation, however the commission has a duty to act as proper stewards of the taxpayer’s funds.
