JEFFERSON CITY – November sales tax receipts from Ste. Genevieve County’s five sales taxes are up $49,353 compared to the same month last year.
However, so far this calendar year, the five sales taxes have brought in $4,404,069 which is down $49,768 from the first 11 months of 2024.
The county collects a half-cent sales tax for each of five funds: county, county general, county law enforcement, additional county capital improvements, and another county capital improvements.
Ste. Genevieve County Treasurer’s office the county continues to suffer the shortfall due to the granting of tax breaks to mining and manufacturing interests in the county.
Officials believe the action by the state was a violation of state law and have filed suit against the state to get that money back.
