Ste. Genevieve County Library announces ‘Unearth a Story’ Summer Reading Program

STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve County Library is excited to announce its 2026 Summer Reading Program, “Unearth a Story,” a community-wide reading adventure designed for readers of all ages.

This year’s program introduces a simplified, age-appropriate tracking system, collectible brag tags, expanded challenges, and exciting prize opportunities designed to keep participants engaged all summer long.

In an effort to make participation easier and more achievable for families, the library has streamlined reading tracking into a single method per participant. Rather than tracking both books and minutes, each age group will now follow one clear reading goal tailored to their developmental level.

Summer Reading Tracking by Age Group:

  • Pre-K: Books Read
  • K–5th Grade: Minutes Read
  • 6–8th Grade: Minutes Read
  • 9–12th Grade: Minutes Read
  • Adults: Books Read

Younger readers will earn collectible brag tags as they progress through the program, while older youth and adults can earn raffle entries and prizes by completing reading milestones and bonus activities. Participants will also have opportunities to earn additional entries through community-based “side quests” like completing the library’s Story Walk, visiting locations on the Little Library Loop, and attending summer library programs.

“This year’s Summer Reading Program is designed to feel more interactive, rewarding, and achievable for every participant,” said Library Director Shawn Long. “We wanted to simplify the experience while still encouraging exploration, creativity, and community engagement through reading.”

The library will officially kick off the Summer Reading Program on Saturday, May 30 from 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. at Ste. Genevieve County Library, the program will feature the Ste. Genevieve Museum Learning Center, hands-on activities, games, and other family-friendly fun designed to launch a summer of reading and discovery.

Readers can track their progress using the Reader Zone app and using code 97421 to register for the program. They can then return to the library throughout the summer to collect rewards, earn entries, and discover new books and experiences.

Registration information, program details, and reading challenges will be available through the library and online at SGCLIB.org.

This summer, the Ste. Genevieve County Library invites the community to dig deeper, discover something new, and Unearth a Story.
