SIKESTON, MO (Aug. 20, 2026) — Southeast Missouri Food Bank today announced $10,000
has been awarded from First State Community Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des
Moines (FHLB Des Moines or Bank). The funding was made possible through the Member
Impact Fund, a matching grant program designed to amplify the community engagement of
FHLB Des Moines member institutions that support local housing, business, and economic
needs.

In Missouri, 956 applications received funding through partnerships with 174 member
institutions. FHLB Des Moines matched $3 for every $1 contributed by a member institution,
resulting in $6.5 million from members and $19.4 million awarded by FHLB Des Moines.
The gift comes at an important time for Southeast Missouri Food Bank, where recent data
shows food insecurity is increasing. More than 69,000 individuals across the Food Bank’s 16-
county service area experienced food insecurity in 2024, or about 1 in 5 people.
“First State Community Bank has a presence in communities throughout our 16-county service
area, so their support reaches close to home,” said Joey Keys, president and CEO of Southeast
Missouri Food Bank. “We’re grateful for their investment in our neighbors, especially at a time
when more families are facing food insecurity. This grant will help us continue providing
nutritious food to families, children and seniors across Southeast Missouri.”
The grant will support Southeast Missouri Food Bank’s efforts to provide nutritious food to
neighbors facing hunger through its network of more than 140 partner agencies and direct-
service programs across the region. The Food Bank serves 70,000 individuals each month.
“The Member Impact Fund is designed to help our members champion organizations like
Southeast Missouri Food Bank that make a real difference in their communities,” said Kris
Williams, president and CEO of FHLB Des Moines. “By partnering with our members, we’re able
to multiply resources and support their vital work as they continue to strengthen opportunities for
the people they serve.”
Since its launch in 2023, the Member Impact Fund has provided more than $106 million in
grants from FHLB Des Moines, generating over $144 million in combined support for affordable
housing and community development. Notably, every eligible application submitted to the
program has received funding, reflecting the Bank’s strong commitment to partnership and
impact.
