Ste. Genevieve High School welcomed six new members into the Société Honoraire de Français (French Honor Society) during its 2026-2027 induction ceremony, led by French teacher Mme. Bre Uzzell.

Now in its second year at SGHS, the French Honor Society recognizes students who have demonstrated high standards of scholarship in their French studies and overall academics. The organization also aims to encourage interest in the study of French, foster an understanding of Francophone cultures and promote international friendship. The SGHS chapter is chartered through the American Association of Teachers of French.
Returning members and chapter co-presidents Clementine Birkenstock, Maria McGuire and Jersey Quinn helped lead the ceremony, which included the lighting of six candles representing core values of the organization: humanity, wisdom, optimism, service, passion and unity. The colors of the candles reflect those of the International Organization of La Francophonie and connect the society’s values to the French-speaking world.
New inductees received certificates and pins to mark their membership. Seniors who continue to meet the organization’s criteria throughout the school year will be eligible to wear honor cords at graduation in May.
The newest members of the Société Honoraire de Français include: Adrian Bauman, Parker Meyer, Sydney Nesslein, Hailey Schweiss, Wade Terry and McKinnley Vogt.
Returning members recognized during the ceremony include: Clementine Birkenstock, Maria McGuire, Camille Melahn, Jersey Quinn, Hailey Wells and Ava Zerwig.
In closing, Mme. Uzzell encouraged members to continue strengthening their French skills, use language to make connections with others and draw upon their language and cultural knowledge to promote understanding, communication and cooperation wherever their future paths take them.
Félicitations to the newest members of the Société Honoraire de Français and to all of the chapter’s returning members!
