SGHS announces resignation of head football coach

STE. GENEVIEVE – Ste. Genevieve High School has announced the resignation of Head Football Coach Jay Pope after five years leading the Dragons football program.

Coach Pope has made the decision to step away from the position to focus more time and energy on his family. During his tenure as head coach, Pope compiled an overall record of 39–18.

Beyond wins and losses, Coach Pope made a lasting impact on the program and the students he coached and mentored. His commitment, passion and dedication helped shape the football program and contributed positively to the school community.

“While we will certainly miss Coach Pope’s leadership on the field, we fully support and respect his decision,” Athletic Director Jeff Nix said. “We are grateful for the impact he has made on our students and program, and we wish him and his family the very best.”

Ste. Genevieve High School will begin the process of identifying the next head football coach in the coming weeks.
